Local author and former Pastor of Eagle Harbor Congregational Church Don Mayer began writing this book as a letter to his newly deceased son Peter.  What was intended for the memorial service became the first in a torrent of letters from father to son, through which Don poured out agonized and angry grief.  In the letters, Mayer laments the way events, otherwise beautiful, for Peter's wife, five-year old daughter, and the rest of the family are relentlessly puncutated with the pain of loss. Ultimately, slowly, the letters began to reflect on the strange mystery of healing.  How is it that in spite of the pain, in spite of the unending loss, comfort does come, opening the way once again for unbelievably deep joy?  The nature of faith and God, the relationship between father and son, and the progression from unbearable grief to the probe for the deeper meanings of life are told in this personal journey from pain to healing.
