ALASKA-YUKON-PACIFIC EXPOSITION, WASHINGTON’S FIRST WORLD FAIR: A TIMELINE HISTORY (slideshow)
Distinguished staff historians at www.HistoryLink.org, the invaluable online encyclopedia of state and local history in Washington state, Alan J. Stein and Paula Becker present a slideshow on their beautiful book detailing the 1909 fair that brought Seattle and Washington into the national spotlight.
The first world’s fair to make a profit, the exposition set the general plan for the University of Washington campus that exists to this day. Seattle history aficionados are in for an extended treat; thievent dovetails with that of the following week on landscape architect John Charles Olmsted, one of whose projects was this exposition.
