Naomi Spinak
A few years ago the son of a middle school friend of Naomi Spinak was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer. Anxious to do something, she started mailing cookies to her friend every week as the son went through treatment.
This project grew into a book, and its illustrations turned into a quilt.
"I wanted to make a bigger impact than just spreading cheer with my
sweet tooth, and the devastation childhood cancer brings is
heartbreaking," says Spinak. "Logan Wight died this past February and I
hope this quilt, the book, and other work dedicated to him will keep his
memory alive and help bring healing to his family."
Spinak, a Bainbridge Island resident, received an MFA in Costume Design from San Diego State University.
