WEST SOUND READS! Upcoming Events ...
We are pleased to announce that best-selling Young Adult author Laurie Halse Anderson will launch her new book, The Impossible Knife of Memory, at a January 7 West Sound Reads event at South Kitsap High School in Port Orchard.
The Impossible Knife of Memorycenters around high school senior Hayley whose single father, Andy, struggles toescape the demons that have tortured him since his return from the IraqWar. The two have never lived in one town long enough for those memoriesto catch up with him, until now. When Hayley and Andy finally stop running and move into his childhood house in the community he grew up in, Andy learns that a soldier’s battle is never really over. Neither, then, is his only daughter’s battles -- to keep her father alive and well, and to do the same for herself.
Her most personal book to date, Anderson’s descriptions of her character’s pain is visceral; her own father struggled through PTSD and alcoholism throughout her adolescence.
Laurie Halse Anderson is one of the only names in the world of young adult literature that rivals John Green’s in breadth of writing and impact of work. Anderson has twice been a finalist for the National BookAward, she received a medal from the American LibraryAssociation for her “significant and lasting contributions to young adult literature,” and her novelSpeak is one of most important YA novels published in the past two decades.Speak, the story of a young victim of sexual assault, is used in classrooms across the country, spent 7 weeks on theUSA Today bestseller list, and has put Anderson at the center of national conversations on sexual assault, including a candid conversation on NPR's Talk of the Nation.
Books will be sold at the event. Customers can pre-order the books through Eagle Harbor Books and picked up at the event.
