We are currently looking to hire part-time booksellers.
Thank you for your interest in Eagle Harbor Book Co. as a possible place of employment. Before you take the time to complete our application, we would like to provide you with some basic information about working here.
Booksellers at Eagle Harbor Book Co. are instrumental in creating a welcoming environment for customers, where we engage with them and share love and knowledge of books and make relevant recommendations. The role includes understanding the mission and vision of the bookstore to deepen its role as a community hub for locals and must-stop location for visitors.
We seldom hire on a part-time or seasonal basis. Since there is a great deal of training and knowledge required to be a good bookseller, we are usually looking for someone who wants to work a minimum of 24 hours per week. Some weekend work is required. We do not rotate work shifts, but the schedule does change from time to time, as store needs change, and therefore we need staff who have some flexibility about the days and hours they work.
Bookselling includes not only helping customers with their book selections and ringing up sales, but also unpacking and shelving books, store maintenance, and a myriad of other large and small tasks and responsibilities. The work is very detail-oriented. You will often not have direct supervision, and therefore, need to be highly self-motivated. An adaptable nature is also a requirement, as we all have to be flexible enough to fulfill a variety of store functions, pitching in where needed. Complete comfort with technology is a must as is ownership of a working smartphone. All bookseller positions are very tech-heavy. Above all, you must have a desire to serve our Bainbridge Island community by meeting customers' book-related needs, whether directly or behind-the-scenes.
Among the benefits available to our employees are deep discounts on nearly all books and other items we sell, paid time-off, a retirement plan, and free parking. Other benefits are less tangible, but apparent to book lovers. Working in an atmosphere of diverse ideas, bringing people and books together, and being part of an organization that contributes to the literary life of the community, is very rewarding.
When a position becomes available, we will post it on our Facebook page, as well as www.facebook.com/groups/workonbainbridgeisland. If, after carefully considering the above, you feel that you can fulfill our requirements and find satisfaction in working at Eagle Harbor Books, we encourage you to fill out Application for Employment at Eagle Harbor Book Co. which is attached below, and either return it to the store if possible or scan and email it to email@example.com.
Thank you for your consideration of us and for your kind attention.
