Endangered Orcas with Monika Wieland

Join Eagle Harbor Book Company in welcoming Monika Wieland to discuss her third book, Endangered Orcas on Thursday August 8th at 6:30 PM.

"Orcas are the world’s largest, biggest-brained, and most peaceful predator. There is a lesson for us right there. But this book is so much more. The Southern Resident orcas are the world’s best studied, most humanly abused population of orcas, and it is through their sacrifices that we have learned much about them, about the living world, and about ourselves. They deserve a new era of love as payback from us. This wondrous and important book explains why, and how we will accomplish that task."
 — Carl Safina, author of Beyond Words; What Animals Think and Feel

Wieland is the cofounder and president of the non-profit Orca Behavior Institute, which conducts non-invasive behavioral and acoustic research on the orcas of the Salish Sea. She has been studying, photographing, and sharing stories about the Southern Resident killer whales since 2000. She lives on San Juan Island, Washington.
