Opening Up and Letting Go, with David W. Cohen
Join us for a moving presentation of photographs and personal observations of a year journey in the Netherlands when Bainbridge Island photographer David W. Cohen talk about his ebook Opening Up and Letting Go. Cohen will be here Thursday, Sept. 24th, at 7:30pm.
Cohen's unique photographic journey, spanning 13 months in the small, medieval Dutch town of Zutphen, was conceived when he decided to shoot daily images to accompany his memorable and cathartic journey.Cohen moved to the community with his wife and son to help care for his aging mother-in-law.
The daily discipline of perserving a unique, visual memory grew into a rich and personal view of daily life in Zutphen. Originally posted as a blog, it drew its audience in both Zutphen and Bainbridge Island into the cultural differences and similarities between the two communities he now calls home. Many of Cohen's friends both on Bainbridge Island and world wide watched daily to see his latest entries during the year, and this eBook offers the opportunity to set down and watch the year unfold together.
Cohen also explores and reveals his struggles with letting go when facing the unknown. Moving his entire family, including their beagle, so far away was a challenge, which in the end proved life changing.
