Seattle Region Independent Bookstores Celebrate
Seattle/Independent Bookstore Day FAQ
Is Indie Bookstore Day happening in the Seattle/West Sound region this year? Yes! Albeit differently. Our goal is to present a challenge in the spirit of Indie Bookstore Day that also responds to the unique circumstances and safety concerns created by the Covid-19 pandemic.
How do I become a Seattle Indie Bookstore Day 2021 Champion? Make at least one purchase at 10 different participating bookstores over the course of 10 days.
What’s the prize? A limited edition SeaBookstore Day 2021 tote bag.
What bookstores are participating? Check out the list of participating bookstores here.
Will I have to go anywhere in person? Not unless you want to. This year’s challenge can be done online or in person. We’ve made sure there are enough qualifying bookstores that are offering online sales for the challenge to be completed without leaving home.
How do I participate? Pick up a passport in person at Eagle Harbor Books, or click here to print one. Keep track of all bookstores you purchase from between April 24 and May 3. Once you’ve made purchases from 10 participating stores, gather your receipts -- either paper or digital -- and mail or submit them digitally: • Submit your receipts and “passport” via USPS toOpen Books, 2414 N 45th St,Seattle, WA 98103• Or digitally submit your entry on the SIBD site here.
Important: All entries must be submitted or postmarked by May 15.
Can I send some receipts digitally and some via mail? No. All entries must be sent as a single batch, either via mail or digitally. We will not accept submissions sent in more than one batch.
What if a bookstore uses an online platform such as Bookshop, Hummingbird, or LibroFM, to sell books? So long as you have a receipt indicating that your purchase was affiliated with a participating bookstore, it counts!
When will I receive my prize? Are there any limitations on where you can ship bags? Your champion tote bag should arrive within 4-6 weeks. Unfortunately, we’re not able to ship totes outside of the continental United States.
Have fun, and know that each and every bookstore in the region is deeply grateful to booklovers for keeping us afloat during the pandemic. We've missed regular face to face interaction, but we have felt your love whether by online orders, gift card purchases, curbside pickups, deliveries, and -- as we've slowly reopened -- in person. We think books helped many of us this past year, whether because of the pandemic, politics, or the reflection we've all needed to do as a soul-searching nation in the face of often shattering news. Thank you for your continue support!
