Sewing Happiness, with Sanae Ishida

Here's one for the DIY crowd. Come meet Seattle author/designer/seamstress/photographer Sanae Ishida when she talks about her book Sewing Happiness: A Year of Simple Projects for Living Well. She will be at the bookstore Thursday, April 28, at 7:30pm.

To make things even more fun, Eagle Harbor Books is inviting you to pick up a free copy of one of Ishida's patterns here at the bookstore, and come to the event with your finished project! We will display your handiwork, along with her book, during the First Friday Art Walk on May 6th.

Ishida's book is about how the simple act of sewing saved -- and altered -- her life forever.

When Ishida was diagnosed with a chronic illness and lost her corporate dream job, she thought her life was over. But these challenges ended up being the best thing that ever happened to her because they forced her to take stock of her life and focus on the important things. Sewing Happiness is the delightful story of how Ishida redefined her priorities, reversed her illness, and rediscovered her love of sewing and creativity. And it is alsoa  delightful, compact, and easily understandable pattern book for some of the projects that helped along her route to renewal.

Twenty simple sewing projects are tied together with a thread of memoir that tells the story of how sewing brought Sanae Ishida profound happiness. Each seasonal project, specially designed to promote health, creativity, relationships and more, provides gentle inspiration to live your best life.

"In a world of Pinterest-perfect styling and overposed, overedited sewing blog photos, Ishida s honesty is refreshing, and her thoughtful musings on the importance of taking a break whether to sew, enjoy family, or simply appreciate our lives are a delight."
