Summer Fun: Reading Without Walls

Join us for the kickoff of our Summer Challenge for Kids: Reading without Walls! We'll have a party on Wednesday, June 28, at 3pm, with fun activities, treats, and bookmarks you can decorate for a grand prize!

Gene Luen Yang, the current National Ambassador for Young People's Literature, has issued a challenge for young readers (though we bet adults would be happy to join in, too):

1. Read a book about a character who doesn't look like you or live like you.

2. Read a book about a topic you don't know much about.

3. Read a book in a format that you don't normally read for fun. This can be a chapter book, a graphic novel, a book in verse, or an audiobook, for example.

When you have met the challenge, come in with a list of the books you've read, and you'll get a certificate and a prize!

And visit our store for great ideas on summer reads! We'll have books for the Hyla Middle School summer reading, recommendations from Odyssey students, and more!
