George, a storyteller, folklorist and former children's librarian, is the author of more than 40 books for children, beginning in 1981 with Lizard's Song.
Among his many honors are the Washington State Book Award, the Charlotte Zalotow Honor Book Award, and in 2012, he was named an Island Treasure by the Bainbridge Arts & Humanities Council. When not writing books, he teaches writing to children all over the world.
George says: "The challenge of sharing a story in as few words as possible and with a vital theme inside a 'light-hearted' plot is one I sense I’ll always enjoy as surely as I do reading."
